1847 (9 June) entire letter to Melrose, Scotland marked "Registered at Yass" and "per first ship" bearing a good strike of the boxed "yass/post paid" in red, a light strike of "paid ship letter/sydney" with rate marks of "2/-" and "1/2" (crossed through); an array of backstamps with oval Yass datestamp, a poor strike of crowned General Post Office Sydney dater, London, Edinburgh and Berwick (14.12) c.d.s. in blue. Rare registered mail by the Toulmin Packet

6d. registration was paid in cash to the local postmaster, there was no receipt but the letter marked "Registered"; 2/- was to be paid by the recipient made up of 1/- inwards Toulmin Packet plus 1/- registration, while 1/2d' represents 11d. inland carriage and 3d. overseas ship letter
