1841 (25 May) large entire letter carried privately from Newcastle to Sydney, to London by the "Mary Taylor" and marked "Registered" and "29" by the postmaster, a fine strike of the oval "paid ship letter/sydney" datestamp (5.6), rated "2/4" and "6" (which has been crossed through), the flap with straight-line "ship letter" in black and London arrival c.d.s. (14.10). There is a vertical filing crease as to be expected on this oversize cover. An appealing and very early registered letter
