1853 (22 Apr.) envelope to New York bearing 1847-54 Embossed 10d. die 1 in an irregular block of three tied by Scottish numeral "131" with a good strike of "Registered/edinburgh" (A&H 1487) in red, Liverpool transit (23.4), unframed "paid/ship" and large "10/cents" accountancy handstamp plus large New York "48"(c.) arrival (5.5), Edinburgh despatch on the reverse. Part of one flap is missing and a few small faults, mostly confined to the reverse.

Pays double rate of 1/- plus 6d. registration, total 2/6d. As full registration to America did not commence until 1st May 1856, the registration only covered this letter to Liverpool
