Stamps of South Africa Used in South West Africa
These were available up to 31 January 1923 when they ceased to be valid. On 17 December 1920 the League of Nations conferred a Mandate of Administration of the territory on His Britannic Majesty, to be carried out by the government in South Africa. The Mandate came into force on 1 January 1923, on which date the first South African stamps overprinted for use in the territory were issued

1923 (3 Jan.) envelope to Pretoria, bearing 1½d. block of four comprising two tête-bêche pairs neatly cancelled with centrally applied single datestamp and with registration handstamp at left; a late usage at the correct rate of 6d., the tête-bêche block being rare on cover. Photo
