These were available up to 31 January 1923 when they ceased to be valid. On 17 December 1920 the League of Nations conferred a Mandate of Administration of the territory on His Britannic Majesty, to be carried out by the government in South Africa. The Mandate came into force on 1 January 1923, on which date the first South African stamps overprinted for use in the territory were issued

1916 (Sept.)-18 (Oct.) envelopes from Aroab (converted from the different town of Arahoab), Gibeon (2), Luderitzbucht and Swakopmund (2) franked at 1d., 2d., 3d. or 6d. (2d. on a 4d. registered envelope with "Swakopmund" registered handstamp in violet), and 1916 (25 Oct.) envelope from Karibib to Switzerland franked at 5d., all censored with handstamp and/or label
