Gates and signed by him on the reverse, steam train at top left, green and black, cancelled. John Warne Gates, 1855 - 1911, also known as 'bet a million' Gates for his love of gambling. Despite several setbacks Gates was successful in the barbed wire business which he sold to J. P. Morgan. Gates was also President of Republic Steek in Texas and the Texas Company (Texaco). EF.
