Foreign Mail Without Forwarding Arrangements: 1939 (27 Oct.) envelope from New York to Lhasa with 5c. meter stamp, boxed "retour" and a weak strike of handstruck "Undelivered for reason stated./to be returned to sender/at the address shown on the cover."; there is an array of backstamps with New York Grand Central Annex machine postmark, censor seal tied by Gyantse c.d.s. (23.11), boxed "D.L.O." datestamps of Bombay (2) and Calcutta (2), boxed "non-reclame/not claimed" and manuscript "No Convention of Exchange of mails between India and Tibet - No Agents at Gyantse hence returned to sender" in red ink.
