Patrick Henry Bligh Wall was born in 1916 and educated at Downside. He served with the Royal Marines from 1935 and was Second-in-Command of 48 Commando during their crossing the River Maas at Biesbosch in April 1945 when he won his Military Cross. His Legion of Merit came as a result of his work in the invasion of northern Italy and southern France. Promoted Major in 1949, he took up a new life in politics, but remained in command of 47 Commando Royal Marines Voluntary Reserve, 1951-57 and was Commissioner of the Sea Scouts for London, 1950-66.

Wall was the Conservative Member of Parliament for Haltemprice from 1954-83, when the seat was abolished, becoming Member for Beverley for one term upon its creation. An early member of the Monday Club, Wall died at Chichester in May 1998.
