The mounted group of eleven miniature dress medals worn by Major-General R. C. Cottrell-Hill, C.B, C.B.E., D.S.O & Bar, M.C., Border Regiment, who commanded 71st Indian Infantry Brigade during the Second World War

The Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Military Division, Companion's Badge, silver-gilt and enamel; The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, C.B.E. Badge; Distinguished Service Order, G.VI.R., with Second Award Bar; Military Cross, G.V.R.; India General Service 1908-35, 1 clasp, North West Frontier 1930-31; General Service 1918-62, 2 clasps, Palestine, Malaya, with M.I.D. oak leaf; 1939-45 Star; Burma Star; Defence and War Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaf; Coronation 1953, mounted court-style as worn, very fine and better, housed in a leather fitted case, the lid embossed 'R. C. C-H.', case originally housing both full-size and miniature awards, the miniature awards fitted to recess (11)

Roger Charles Cottrell-Hill was born in 1903 and educated at Bedford School and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Border Regiment in 1924. As a Captain he was awarded the M.C. in 1938 for gallant conduct in an engagement at El Yamun, near Jenin in Palestine. He was Brigade Major in 1940 and Brigade Commander in 1944. He was awarded the D.S.O. for Arakan in 1944 and the Bar for the assault landing on Ramree Island in 1945. After the War, he was Chief of Staff in Malaya, 1950-53 and General Officer Commanding Berlin (British Sector), 1955-56. Retiring in 1959, he died in 1965; sold together with a quantity of service details.
