George Alexander Marshall Hinton was born at Dudley, Staffordshire on 16 November 1874 and earned the unusual combination of awards, having joined the Royal Marine Labour Corps and served in France at Dieppe with that unit from 29 June 1917-17 February 1919. Hinton was given 21 Days Field Punishment after having been discovered drunk at 12.15am returning to camp after been working aboard S.S. Karnak on 2 July 1918; sold together with full copied service records and Mercantile Marine Medal Card which confirms BWM issued by the Royal Marines (also entitled to Victory Medal).
