Three: Private W. H. Tidman, Rifle Brigade, later Tank Corps, who was killed in action on 11 August 1918

1914-15 Star (545 Pte. W. H. Tidman. Rif. Brig.); British War and Victory Medals (545 Pte. W. H. Tidman. Rif. Brig.), nearly extremely fine (3)

William Henry Tidman served in France with the Rifle Brigade from 14 December 1915 and latterly transferred to the Tank Corps (No. 76914). He was killed in action on 11 August 1918, more details provided in an original letter to his sister, dated 25 October 1918, from the British Red Cross and relayed from Captain M. D. Barder, 4th Tank Corps, 'C' Company:

'In reply to your enquiry we are told by Captain Barderm that Tidman with others was in a Tank in charge of 2nd Lieut. J. Roch. The Tank got hit and had to be abandoned, the Lieutenant and crew taking refuge in a shell hole. After a time the Germans were driven back and 2nd Lieut. Roch was rescued but none of the others could be found, except L/Cpl. Knight who had successfully made his own way back and told Captain Barder about it.

Captain Barder's statement leaves some hope that your brother may have been made a prisoner; there is time yet either for you to hear direct from your brother or for his name to come in on a list of prisoners.'

Tidman did not come through the action and is buried in the Bouchoir New British Cemetery; sold together with original BRC & St. John letter, named box of issue and enclosure letter for the British War & Victory Medals.
