Robert Snell was born at Bradfield, Berkshire and was a groom by trade upon his enlistment on 26 February 1876. He initially served with the Bedfordshire Regiment and transferred to the Military Foot Police on 31 July 1882, serving with them in Egypt from 17 August 1882-15 February 1883. He was discharged in February 1888 and joined the Metropolitan Police. Snell served with the Whitehall and Camberwell Divisions whilst in the Police; sold together with copied Service Record.
