The only award of the D.C.M. to the Military Police for Italy during the Great War.

D.C.M. London Gazette 3 June 1919. The citation, published on 11 March 1920 states:

'During the advance over the Piave and on the night of 26-27 October 1918, he maintained his position on the Maserada Bridge throughout a very heavy bombardment by the shells and bombs. The great coolness he displayed, and the careful handling of the troops, prevented a panic which would have led to the loss of life.'

A. Jackson, a native of Stockport, served in the Duke of Lancashire's Own Yeomanry at the turn of the century and was awarded his T.F.E.M. on 11 April 1911, the final issue of the Edward VII's reign. During the Great War he served in Egypt with the Yeomanry from 10 November 1914, before transferring to the Military Mounted Police. He served with the detachment serving with the 7th Division, under the command of Major-General Shoubridge in Italy. They were heavily engaged during the Battles during the crossing of the Piave, which hinged on the capture of the Papadopoli Island, which required the building of a pontoon bridge. It was during that operation on the night of 26-27 October 1918 and the enemy bombardment which came down, that Jackson won his D.C.M.; sold together with copied research.
