A Great War D.C.M. awarded to Private R. Hastings, Machine Gun Corps

Distinguished Conduct Medal, G.V.R. (81529 Pte. R. Hastings. 50/M.G.C.), good very fine

D.C.M. London Gazette 30 August 1918:

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He crossed a bridge under a heavy machine-gun barrage, opened fire, and inflicted severe casualties on the enemy, successfully engaging an enemy machine gun. Later, although his gun was put out of action, he stuck to it and brought it out, with the enemy close on him.'

Robert Hastings, a native of Glasgow, won his D.C.M. with the 50th Machine Gun Corps; further entitled to a British War and Victory Medal Pair.
