1896 (1 Dec.) a letter (no envelope) from a soldier writing to his brother about the battles he had been in. Fine and a lively first-hand account of his fighting.


He writes about their activities between 8 to 23 November. His battalion was guarding the citadels in Kinshujou and Riyojinkorai. Later they encountered 3000 Chinese soldiers and 100 cavalry. They were attacked by 10,000 Chinese soldiers facing their 1600 troops on 21 November but the Chinese retreated. The following day there was another attack involving 1000 troops and 3000 cavalry which resultes in the defeat of the Chinese forces with heavy casualties. The troops went on to defeat the Chinese forces in Kinshujou and Rikyojhorai. Each victorious Japanese soldier was presented with 50 cigarettes and a barrel of saki wine.


1896年12月1日一封由日本軍人石原嘉莊寄給其兄弟的信(缺信封), 內容主要記述自1896年11月8日至23日的戰爭情況, 以及清軍步兵與騎兵數量, 及其後日軍將其擊退之情形; 日軍戰勝後, 每人分得香煙五十根及清酒一瓶.
