1795 (10 Apr.) entire letter from Langford Lovell to Christopher Codrington in London, rated "1/-", showing good to fine "antigua" handstamp (Proud Type PS 12) with arrival datestamp (26.6) on reverse across join. The interesting contents mention that reinforcements have arrived at Martinique, detachments sent to Grenada and St. Vincent, French commander at Guadeloupe, Victor Huguet, has been organising fifth column plots in various islands including one at Dominica for burning the town of Roseau and massacring the inhabitants. Later "a Convoy will sail from St. Kitts the 1st, St. Vincent's are holding their own but in Grenada the French have all but Richmond Fort and the town of St. George". Photo
