1891-96 Competition Essays
The following lots comprise entries for the competitions for ½d., 2½d. and 5d. postage stamps, 1d. and 2d. postcards, and ½d. and 1d. newspaper wrappers. Each entry was submitted under a "nom de plume" and this together with the entry number is given at the beginning of each description

2d. postcard, 2½d. and 5d. postage stamps
"Finis Coronat Opus" (No. 15): 2d., two designs of stamp only both with the head in an oval, one also enclosed in a triangle, both with ornate floral surrounds and affixed to card; 2½d. and 5d. stamp designs, three of each, one of each value with cockatoo (2½d.) and lyrebird (5d.) incorporated into the design, all with standard Queen's head to left, professionally executed in black ink and wash with figures or letters picked out in Chinese white.
