1874 (Feb.) Ashanti Wars stampless cover to Edinburgh bearing "Ashanti No stamps" bearing manuscript "4" in blue crayon which has been cancelled and Liverpool handstruck "6d" added with Cape Coast Castle c.d.s. (4.2), the reverse with Liverpool "br packet" (2.3) and Edinburgh (8.3) c.d.s. Fine. This was intended to catch the Pacific Steam Navigation packet via Cape Verde Islands but was sent by the normal Liverpool packet, the British Packet c.d.s. in black indicating unpaid. Photo
