1894 (12 June) incoming mail to Sven Hedin in Kashgar, opened-out, registered envelope bearing 10ö. and 50ö. tied by Stockholm c.d.s. with the small registered handstamp in corner. Sent by his father, it is addressed, via Osh, to the Russian Consul-General Perrovsky in Kashgar for transmission to Sven Hedin and bears, on the reverse, a good strike of Osh Ferghana/Post.Telegr Office c.d.s. (19.6). Early mail relating to Hedin´s 1st Expedition to Central Asia. The envelope is addressed in French and Russian and is numbered "46". An important and striking cover. Photo

The Russian postal service did not extend to Kashgar at that time, the Russian Consul General in Kashgar rendered every possible assistance to Sven Hedin by enlisting Cossack horsemen to carry mail and supplies for Sven Hedin because of his good relationship with the Russian Czar.
