Malayan Airmails
The Wartime Period
KLM Lydda - Singapore - Sydney Service and Return
Following Italy's entry into the war in June 1940, KLM moved its operational HQ to Palestine and commenced on 30 July a weekly service from Lydda to Sydney via Singapore.

1942 (6 Jan.) envelope from Batavia to USA, marked "By KLM to Lydda and air throughout", franked at 80c., flown by KLM to Singapore where "d" and "25" sorting marks applied, then flown by next KLM flight to Lydda, taken by train to Cairo, then BOAC on horseshoe route to Durban, and finally by ship to USA. A very late airmail sent via Singapore and thus scarce. Photo
