KNILM, a company founded for local operations in the Dutch East Indies, began on 10 February 1930 an experimental flight between Batavia, Palembang and Singapore.
1930 (8 Feb.) "koninklijke nederlandsch-indische luchtvaart mij." envelope carried on first flight from Weltevreden to Singapore, franked at 40c. and showing "eerste luchtpost/k.n.i.l.m./Weltevreden - Singapore" oval cachet; and 1930 (10 Feb.) envelope carried on the return flight from Singapore, marked "By Air Mail Singapore - Batavia", franked at 22c. with "kampong glam/singapore" double-ring d.s. and showing "by air mail" etiquette
