1939 (13 June) envelope from Cocos Islands to Seychelles via Diego Garcia, showing personal monogram of J.S. Clunies-Ross with "12 june 1939" datestamp below, manuscript "D" applied at Diego Garcia, bearing Seychelles 1938 2c. (6) applied and cancelled on arrival and endorsed on flap "Carried between Cocos, Diego Garcia and Seychelles, Indian Ocean Flight", signed Jack Percival. Rare, only six covers exist. Photo

Note: The Cocos Islands were administrated by Straits Settlements from 1886 to 1946. Flying-boat "GUBA II", captained by Gordon Taylor, carrying out the survey of a proposed reserve Empire air route to Europe over the Indian Ocean, became the first aircraft to visit the islands on 7 June. The plane left Cocos on the 13th for Diego Garcia, Seychelles and finally Mombasa, Kenya.
