Kingsford Smith in the "Southern Cross" took over from Imperial Airways at Akyab on 6 May and flew it to Darwin for transfer to Qantas, which arrived in Melbourne on 14 May.

1931 (4 May) envelope registered from Bahau (Negri Sembilan) to New South Wales, marked "British - Australian Flight", franked at $1.71c. and cancelled by "bahau/f.m.s." double-ring d.s., showing "by airmail" etiquette and, on reverse, Seremban, Singapore (5.5) and Sydney (14.5) datestamps; (8 May) envelope from Singapore to New Zealand, handstamped "By Air Mail, "British Australian Flight", Via Singapore/Port Darwin/N.Z.", franked at 46c., showing "by air mail" etiquette and signed by the pilot, G.U. Allan; and 1931 (4 May) "Field" envelope from Singapore to Birmingham, marked "By Air Mail Australia - London Flight", franked at 48c. with "raffles /singapore" double-ring d.s. and showing "by air mail" etiquette
