On 2 August a fortnightly airmail service was commenced from Penang by sea to Calcutta, then by train to Karachi for air connection to London. On 30 November it became a weekly despatch.
1931 (4 Dec.) envelope from Ipoh to Dublin, franked at 31c., showing "by air mail" etiquette with Penang transit d.s. (5.12) on reverse; the envelope with some light tone spots. The 26c. rate lasted from 4 December 1931 to 19 January 1932 and is the rarest of the pre-war airmail rates. 3 covers recorded. Photo
