On 2 August a fortnightly airmail service was commenced from Penang by sea to Calcutta, then by train to Karachi for air connection to London. On 30 November it became a weekly despatch.

1929 (17 Aug.) envelope registered from Kuching to London, marked "By Air Mail" and "Karachi - London" and franked at 56c., no backstamps. Rare, about 44 letters carried. Photo

Note: Imperial Airways opened their London to Karachi service on March 30th 1929. Mail from Sarawak was carried for the first time in September 1929. The airmail fee was 35 cents perf ½ ounce in addition to the surface rate of 6 cents plus a registration fee of 15 cents.
