On 2 August a fortnightly airmail service was commenced from Penang by sea to Calcutta, then by train to Karachi for air connection to London. On 30 November it became a weekly despatch.
1929 (29 July) envelope registered from Malacca to England, marked "Via Karachi London" in red ink, franked at 41c. (one stamp defective), showing "by air mail" etiquette and registration label with Penang transit d.s. on reverse; and (2 Aug.) 6c. stationery envelope from Penang to London, marked "By Air Mail Karachi-London", uprated 20c. and showing "by air mail" etiquette. A fine pair illustrating the 26c. rate which lasted from 27 July 1929 to 24 November 1931
