1929 (27 Mar.) "Field" envelope from Kuching to Birmingham, franked at 18c., showing By Air Mail etiquette with manuscript "Marseilles - London" below with GB ½d. applied and cancelled on arrival alongside and, on reverse, Singapore datestamp for 1 April with manuscript notation "Flown by special arrangement, after suspension of the regular service, and delivered two days before ordinary mails - as shown by postmarks" signed Field. Rare, 30 letters carried. Photo

Note: On April 20th a small number of letters from Sarawak were carried by the "Air Union" flight from Marseilles to London. A charge of 12 cents per ½ ounce was made in addition to the surface rate of 6 cents.
