Values of Griqualand used prior to the latter becoming a province within Cape Colony
1877 (19 June) envelope from Douglas to England, bearing 1877 (Mar.) G.W. 1d. carmine-red pair with the right-hand stamp showing an apparently different typeface to letter "g", cancelled "1" in oval and with double-oval "douglas/w.g.l." datestamp alongside, Cape Town datestamp (2.6) additionally tying the pair, the reverse with Cape Packet Plymouth (28.7) and Leicester (30.7) datestamps; another stamp (presumably a 4d. value to make up the 6d. packet letter rate to the U.K.) cut away at upper right, nevertheless a rare franking.
