Values of Cape of Good Hope used prior to the introduction of Griqualand values
1871 (6 July) piece bearing Cape 1d. carmine-red (small faults) in combination with Great Britain 1d. rose-red sharing a fine strike of the Diamond Fields oval datestamp. A most unusual combination franking, possibly usage by a recent arrival in the Colony who was unsure what could be used at the Diamond Fields, and which appears to have been accepted. Photo
