The Duke of Wellington
1842 (9 August) A.L.S. from London to the groom as Stratfield Saye where he mentions different horses and the coachman, " ... The silver tailed horse and the Pony Phaeton and the two pairs of poneys." he then goes on to mention Copenhagen (who had died six years before). This letter, with envelope (stamp removed) is signed "Wellington". Another 1836 (13 June) A.L.S. to Henry where he begins, "I be per paid up Copenhagen and the house furniture..." and is signed "W" and entire 1844 (4 September) A.L.S. carried privately to Stratfield where he mentions his groom and the silver tailed horse, signed "W" and again on the address panel. Copenhagen (1808 – 12 February 1836) was the Duke of Wellington's war horse, which he most famously rode at the Battle of Waterloo.
