Francis Freeling
1829 (October) two folio letters from Francis Freeling to John Garrard, a solicitor in Olney, Bucks. with regard to letters which had been delayed in the mail. The first, dated 16th September, asks, "... I trust you have preserved the Covers of both the Missent Letters and I pray you to transmit them to me, it will enable us the more effectually to apply ourselves to the prevention of the Evil.". The second letter, dated 26th September, offers the Post Office deliberations, "I have now exhausted my enquiries in endeavouring to discover where the enclosed letter was delayed - that letter does not appear ... to have been missent to any town ... In the absence of any postmark I am inclined to think it may have remained in this office during Sunday 7th ... & I regret that I am unable to give you a more satisfactory explanation. Both are signed "F. Freeling". A good pair of letters. Photo
