#225, 5c Violet Meched Provisional on wove paper, apparently a second state printing (it has clear 2A and 2B characteristics and no clear type I characteristics) but with early control with extra loop and being postally used tied to piece (stamp lifted and hinged in place) by virtually full type I Meched cancel with 15/3 date, this is the recognized earliest date cancel that is always postal and not found on sheet cancelled stamps, attractive with nice margins, very fine and choice; if indeed this is a second state printing it is most unusual as G. Karman knew of no second state printings used in March and only one other postally used 5c Violet used with Meched type I cancel dated 21/4.
