Ancient Vatsa was an important trading centre of the Ganges valley, and its capital, Kausambi, was believed to have been situated near the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna Rivers . Its rulers gained independence with the decline of the Sunga dynasty and issued a wide range of coins over the next 400 years. The coins in this lost are believed to have been issued before the Kushan conquest, although further coins were issued after this time.
