1818 (16 June) front and part back from Annan addressed to "Depty Afst Commifsary Genl, Dobson, Sierra Leone, Care of Mefsrs Macaulay & Babington, Birchi Lane, London", rated "1/1½" and showing London Paid d.s. in red; some soiling
Note: There was a wooden box on the desk of the Sierra Leone Company secretary in both Birchin Lane, London, and in Freetown. In these early days of the Colony, there were no mail boats other than the company's own supply ships. Whenever a ship arrived at either end, the box that had been accumulating mail awaiting a vessel was nailed shut and swapped for the box that was incoming.
