1875 Bell 1d essay, the head printed in red, the frame handpainted in red, the whole design virtually as issued, on piece (57x50mm.) initialled "RR" (Robert Ramsay the then Postmaster General of Victoria); two stains well clear of design. One other essay, in grey-violet, is known. Delightful. Photo
