Graf Zeppelin, Around the World Flight
1929 special menu card for a celebration dinner at The Ambassador, Los Angeles. The menu entitled "Banquet in Honor of Dr Hugo Eckener, The Officers and Passengers of the Graf Zeppelin, Tendered by Los Angeles Examiner and Affiliated Hearst Publications at The Ambassador, Los Angeles, During the course of the epoch-making Hearst Zeppelin Around the World Flight". The front cover is a silver embossed illustration of the Zeppelin and Arms of the Hotel. On opening the menu, there are some signatures and comments by guests. The centre page, in gothic script, each course dedicated to an individual on the flight. On the left of the page is the signature of Lieutenant Commander Kusaka Ryunosuke . Size 6" x 9"; folded. Lieutenant Commander Kusaka Ryunosuke had graduated from the Japanese Naval Staff College in 1925 as a specialist in Naval Aviation. By 1941 he had commanded two of Japanese Aircraft Carriers (Hoso and Akagai) but was promoted to Chief of Staff of the 1st Air Fleet in April taking part and being instrumental in the strategic and tactical planning for the Pearl Harbour attack. Promoted to Vice Admiral in 1944 he survived the war
