King George II
1728-57, a group of four Exemplifications of Common Recovery. On vellum, each features a different portrait of the King.



1728 (10 July) Exemplification in Latin featuring an head and shoulders portrait, large initial capital, royal coat of arms with allegorical birds, flowers and snakes by Richard Agar and Edmund Bedingfeld from Charles Baldwyn and Timothy Buck of seven messuages, ten gardens, 100 acres land, 146 acres meadow, 302 acres pasture, one acre wood, 60 acres scrub and heath in Stanton, Ludford, Ludlow etc., Shropshire. Bearing pair of 5/- blue general duty stamps.



1732 (22 May) Exemplification in Latin with King facing left, large initial capital, with lion, unicorn and allegorical birds, by John Hawkins from Benjamin Melhuish of a messuage, three gardens, 100 acres land, 20 acres meadow, 50 acres pasture, 2 acres scrub and heath in St. Austell, Cornwall. With seal of the Court of Common Pleas in skippet, largely preserved but with unclear impression.



1742 (29 November) Exemplification in English with portrait of the King facing left, large initial capital and royal coat of arms with allegorical birds and emblems, by Philip Welsh from Richard Maddock of three messauges, 5 gardens, 105 acres land, 40 acres meadow, 80 acres pasture, 7 acres furze and heath, 40 acres moor, 20 acres marsh, etc. in Cryton, Pyworthy, Lamerton and the boroughs of Lydford and Oakhampton, Devon; with seal of the Court of Common Pleas in skippet, almost complete but unclear impression. Pair of 5/- blue general duty stamps.



1757 (28 November) Exemplification in English showing a portrait of the King facing left, large initial capital with royal coat of arms in an internal setting with busts and statues, by Thomas Preston and Kempe Bowman from John l'Anson of four messuages in the Parish of St. Peter Paul's Wharf, London. With seal in fragments in skippet. Pair of 5/- blue general duty stamps. Some soiling. Photo
