Auction: 142 - March Philatelic Collector's Series Sale
Lot: 794
#29b, 1901 "3 cents" on 10c Blue and brown, triple surcharge, precisely centered mint single, beautifully fresh bright colors, o.g., lightly hinged, extremely fine; this has to be the most undervalued surcharge rarity of this country as this example is believed to be the only known example in existance, a couple of other surcharge rarities of this country are valued considerably higher such as the 1893 12c on 16c Orange brown and blue, double surcharge (Scott #23d; $15,750.00; S.G. #16b; £15,000)), of which two examples are recorded, are valued at mulitples of this unique issue, perhaps the infrequency of this rarity coming to market accounts for the discrepancy, but certainly this should be the making of an eye-popping realization; 1995 David Brandon certificate (S.G. #37b; £3,250+).
