Henry I (1100-35), Penny, 1.34g, cross in quatrefoil type (BMC IX), Canterbury, Winedi, crowned and diademed facing bust holding sceptre to left, star and quatrefoil of annulets in field to right, rev. +pineide [i]n:canp:, cross pattée within quatrefoil, annulets on each cusp, quatrefoil of four annulets in spandrels (N.865; S.1270), test cut at seven o´clock, crimped, superb portrait, an exceptional example, good very fine, extremely rare Estimate £ 1,200-1,500 provenance Found near Louth, Lincs, 2008 Recorded with the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, EMC 2011.0173 This is the only known example of this moneyer for type IX at Canterbury, which until now was only known for the moneyer Wulvric.
