1799 5 Dollars, Large Stars. NCS XF Details, Improperly Cleaned. Breen-6436, B. 3-F, Miller-37, R.6. Mint records show that 7,451 Half Eagles were coined in 1799 and the overall scarcity of the date suggest the possibility of only a portin bearing the 1799 date. The variety encountered on this coin offers the gold aficionado further reason to celebrate, as it is much more difficult to locate than the Small Stars variety. While ample detail remains, the surfaces now show muted luster because of noticeable cleaning. For accuracy sake, several wispy pinscratches are located near the legends on both sides. Damage aside, the offering of the Large Stars type is exciting and should merit spirited bidding.
