Line Engraved Essays and Proofs 1841 May, Trial on Dickinson Silk Thread Paper 1d. full deep red, plate 11 KA-LC marginal block of six from the left of the sheet, showing the marginal inscription, large to very large margins all round, a few hinge remainders on reverse; a stunning and magnificent, exceptionally fresh block of unrivaled quality. B.P.A. Cert. (1989). S.G. Spec. DP22, £39,000 as singles Estimate £ 12,000-15,000 Following the trial printing of the 2d. value, this trial was conducted on the Dickinson security paper. The first and last vertical columns of the sheet do not have the silk threads. The ink used blued the paper quite deeply. Eight sheets were printed, six of these on gummed paper; however, only examples from the two sheets on ungummed paper have been seen. This paper was not considered to be as safe as the watermarked paper. provenance: ´Wills´, November 1989
