Child´s gold posie ring, 1.31g, ?French workshop, fifteenth century, external diameter 14.5 mm, internal diameter 14.5mm, width of band 4.4mm, outside inscribed in blackletter script with floral scroll, +le la veil, inside, plain, a pleasing small gold ring, wearable, extremely fine, rare Estimate £ 800-1,000 provenance Found in 2009 at Kinnersley, Herefordshire (Treasure report 2009 T674-disclaimed) The ring is soldered with a feathered join visible on both the outside and inside faces. The inscription is a love motto and such expressions seem to have been associated with love in fifteenth century England. This ring is of typical late medieval form and is similar to another found at Ewenni in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, published in 1991 by Cherry and Redknap (p.120) with the motto +ieme la belle. The small size suggests this may have belonged to a young person.
