Naval General Service 1793-1840, one clasp, Trafalgar (John Sharp.), minor edge nicks, nearly extremely fine, with original strip of riband Estimate £ 5,000-5,500 John Sharp served as Ordinary Seaman in H.M.S. Thunderer during the major fleet action off Cape Trafalgar between the British fleet under the command of Vice-Admiral Lord Nelson and the Franco-Spanish fleet under the command of Vice-Admiral P.C. de Villeneuve, 21.10.1805; two other men of this name appear on the Admiralty Claimants List, a single clasp for ´Syria´, and a two clasp medal for ´Anse La Barque 18 Decr 1809´ and ´Guadaloupe´ -both of these medals also feature in this collection (see Lots 93 and 94) thus securing for all time their uniqueness and that of John Sharp´s Trafalgar from the effects of "A name in common usage". At Trafalgar the Thunderer was in the lee column and ´she was of some assistance to the Revenge, and subsequently was engaged with the Spanish 112, Principe de Asturias, and the French 84, Neptune. Her losses amounted to sixteen killed and wounded, including three officers.
