Naval General Service 1793-1840, two clasps, St. Domingo, Victorious With Rivoli (Robert Harrett.), light scratches, good very fine Estimate £ 3,800-4,200 Robert Harrett served as Ordinary Seaman in H.M.S. Spencer during the capture of three and destruction of two French ships-of-the-line by Vice Admiral Sir John Duckworth´s squadron off St. Domingo, Dominica, 6.2.1806; three Large Naval Gold Medals and seven Small Naval Gold Medals were awarded for this action; Harrett served as Able Seaman in H.M.S. Victorious during the epic action in conjunction with H.M.S. Weazel against a French squadron off the Istrian Coast of Croatia in the Adriatic, which included the capture of the 74-gun Rivoli and the destruction of the brig Mercure, 22.2.1812. The Captain of H.M.S. Victorious, John Talbot, received a Small Naval Gold Medal for this action. Provenance: Hamilton Glasgow 1970 Spink July 1995
