Naval General Service 1793-1840, one clasp, 1 Nov Boat Service 1809 (John Oliver French, Clerk.), very fine Estimate £ 2,800-3,200 John French served as Clerk in H.M.S. Apollo, when boats from Captain B. Hallowell´s squadron, including from the Apollo, under the orders of Lieutenant J. Tailour of the Tigre, captured or destroyed a French convoy which consisted of five warships and a number of merchant vessels in Rosas Bay, off the north-east coast of Spain, 1.11.1809. In these Boat operations most of the crew were valiant, including Captain´s Servants, Clerks etc.
