Naval General Service 1793-1840, one clasp, Curacoa (Charles Fishington.), very fine Estimate £ 3,200-3,600 Charles Fishington served as Able Seaman in H.M.S. Arethusa during the capture of the strongly fortified island of Curacoa in the Dutch Antilles, 1.1.1807. The Captains of the four frigates involved (Arethusa, Anson, Fisgard and Latona) all received Small Naval Gold Medals for this action. Charles Fishington joined the Royal Navy, 1805, and was borne on the ship´s books of H.M.S. Arethusa from July of that year; he was verified aboard as similarly borne during the capture of the Spanish frigate Pomona, off Mona Castle, near Havana Harbour, and was entitled to the clasp ´Arethusa 23 August 1806´ ; which was not claimed - only 6 successful claims were made for this rare clasp; he advanced to Petty Officer status when rated as Yeoman of the Powder Room, January 1813; later service included in H.M.S.
