Naval General Service 1793-1840, one clasp, Trafalgar (Chas. Freeman.), minor edge bruising, otherwise good very fine Estimate £ 5,500-6,500 Charles Freeman served as Armourer´s Mate in H.M.S. Orion during the major fleet action off Cape Trafalgar between the British fleet under the command of Vice-Admiral Lord Nelson and the Franco-Spanish fleet under the command of Vice-Admiral P.C. de Villeneuve, 21.10.1805. At Trafalgar the Orion served in the weather column and ´she fought the French 74, Intrépide, which she forced in quarter of an hour to haul down her colours, and assisted in the submission of the French Swiftsure. Her losses amounted to twenty-four killed and wounded; she had several spars injured, and her main-topsail yard shot away.´ (The Trafalgar Roll, The Officers, The Men, The Ships, Colonel R.H.
