Orange Free State 1878 1/- original handpainted essay, stamp-size in orange on glazed card (22x26mm.) showing pencilled guide lines in the borders and for the lettering, the pencilling of the word "Oranje" with a "g" inserted instead of the "j", though in the painting the correct spelling of "Oranje" has been used; some surface damage around the tree area though remaining attractive, and unique Estimate £ 2,000-2,500 provenance: H.R.
