Edward the Confessor, Penny, 0.87g, small flan type, Stamford, Faegrim, helmeted bust left, rev. +fargrim sa, voided short cross (N.818; S.1175), flan cracks, very fine Estimate £ 120-150 Faergrim is a well attested moneyer for Stamford but the mint signature is unusual. The sa mint signature is more commonly associated with Sandwich but no such moneyer is recorded of this name for this mint. A moneyer named Faergrim is also known for Chester and it is possble this moneyer also operated at Stafford, however an attribution to Stamford is prefered as the most likely mint.
