Edward the Confessor, Penny, 0.79g, imititative small flan type, ?London, Lifinc, helmeted bust left, rev. +lifinc on lin:ici, voided short cross (cf. N.818; S.1175), curious obverse, porous, crimped, light weight, very fine Estimate £ 120-150 Mossop noted two coins by Lifinc for Lincoln but noted he had doubts about this attribution. Despite the good style reverse, the blundered legends, curious bust style and light weight suggest this is another example of the Linfinc imitative group noted by Dolley in NC 1961. provenance Found near Devizes, Wilts, c.1995
